I love Walmart, in Utah or Summit County anyway!

I am so full of controversy lately. I put up a yard sign today that states my views, no more agreeing with everyone and not telling them what I really think just to be nice. I really don't want WalMart to come to Heber City. Really I don't. I truly do love WalMart, I spend a lot of money there, but I just don't want it here. I don't mind the 15 minute drive to Park City to bump into other people's carts and shelving displays because it is such a small and cramped store. I would rather do that than have it in my sweet little valley. So there you go, that is where I stand, have always stood, and will continue to stand. For those of you who don't know, this is a HUGE issue here. We all get to vote on it in November and decide the fate of Big Box stores in Heber City!!
While I was outside taking a picture of my controversial sign, I thought I would show you how cute my front porch is this fall. We grew all of those pumpkins on our 1/2 acre of happiness!! Well, there were quite a few more green ones that didn't color up in time! The corn stalks are courtesy of Jen, since I didn't plant corn this year - THANKS Jen!!

Okay just one more random picture. This maple tree is in my sweet neighbor's yard to the south of us. Isn't it gorgeous right now? I get to see it out of my kitchen window, living room, and bedroom windows. I love it. It makes me think of how beautiful Corvallis, OR must be right now with all of its maple lined streets.

I know that I am against the majority here, but I absolutely hate WalMart. I have two within five to ten minutes from my home and I will drive further just to avoid it. So, I completely understand you not wanting it in your small town.
Your front porch is so cute! It has inspired me to take a picture of mine...but it will have to wait until tomorrow when I have daylight!

Jen, I just went to onedayatatime.blogspot.com to see if you had a site up. It is about someone with a compulsive gambling problem. Are you holding out on me??

I am an avid Walmart hater!! I almost posted about my horrible Walmart experience the other day! I know that there are times that I have to go there, but I make it few and far between and now that Christmas is around the corner it will be even worse!! Barf! Heber needs to stay the way it is--without a Walmart!

RACHEL.....RACHEL.....RACHEL!!!!! I hope no one eggs my house for this, but I luv Wal-Mart. I'd take a Target up here before wal-mart though. It's probably my fault that Wal-mart wants to come. The past four places I have lived.....Wal-mart has come with in two years of us living there....it was just a matter of time before they found me up here. Watch out for Mark's comments in the Wasatch Wave. He's got a blunt article that is coming out supporting wal-mart. He might make some enimies in this valley. BTW-I had no influence on him and the article. It's his buisness/accounting personality coming out.

Rachel, and others who have been blinded by those in sheep’s clothing. How dare you spew your blasphemy about evils of Walt-Mart. The basic economic principal of Economics to Scale is something that Wal-Mart can achieve, and they pass these savings to the customer (Hence the cheaper prices). The Mom and Pop shops in town can’t achieve this at the same level, and usually keep the savings to them selves in a greater degree. Also with the new developments, traffic, and population gains in Heber Valley adding a Wal-Mart isn’t that big of a hit to this little quaint valley.

Plus think how nice the quilting section the Heber Wal-Mart will be!!

Yes I admit I have a problem, just going into my 2nd step, 10 more to go.
I love this Mark and Amanda I will have to meet them sometime.
Hail all Wal*Mart shoppers. I build my shopping list for wal*mart, love it. I even went as far as to take Kelsey out for the day there.... how strange am I.
Anyone like the idea of a target or walmart out north by the college?????

Jones and Jenny, we are still friends. Okay, STILL friends!! Dang I knew this sign would cause some spit spewing!! I was talking to Troy Schwinn at church about it too. I didn't mention to him about the sign on my front lawn, that would have totally killed the conversation!
Mark, I took Econ 201 and hated every waking second of it. The only thing that kept me going was of course a decent grade and the fact that the person my roomies and close associates called "The Dream Cowboy" or for short, The DC sat next to me. I did get the concepts though, but I still hate to have it all start up here. We will soon look like Utah County, NO OFFENSE meant to all of you!! That is all. I could truly care less about the savings. Truly. I am picky about where I spend my money. If someone ticks me off or I get some 16 year old attitude girl that throws my change back at me so she can text her looser boyfriend quicker, I will NEVER go there again. EVER!! I do like a good deal though, don't get me wrong. My last clothes shopping spree was at the thrift store.

Man, I should post a pic of The DC. Do I have one?
Jenny, you can take my daughter to Walmart anytime you wish, just as long as no pets come home with her!

I guess I will be getting a copy of the paper this Wednesday! I think you are so brave, I have wanted to write about certain topics but I don't have the cahoonas to do it.

Ok-I will clarify my Walmart hatred. It's not the store itself--I actually like the savings. No where else can you get better prices on such needed items as shampoo, conditioner, dog food, t.p., etc. I hate the people in Walmart--all the other shoppers! (I might offend here, so sorry) I hate the moms who have fifteen kids running around and screaming while they are trying to push 2 carts full of crap, I hate the non-english speaking patrons and the fact that I have no idea what they are saying when I walk past and the greasy ones are staring at me and talking, I hate that a bunch of older ladies clog the aisles cause they are having a catch up session from relief society, I hate that I always end up picking the check-out stand with the customer who insists that an item had a lower price so they are running a price check on an item from the back of the store just to save 39 cents, and the 16 year old that's doing it is NOT hurrying, there is always some greasy, stinky, toothless old man in the walmart wheelchair that finds me and starts flirting, yeah I am always nice but I don't like it. Then just when I think that I have escaped the torture and got out of there without causing bodily injury, I get stuck driving behind the lady that's going 15 mph in a 50 mph zone cause she is floating along in her happy post-walmart oblivion!

Rachel I have a couple questions for you. If you are planning on moving away from the Heber Valley why do you care if Wal*mart comes to town? Are you planning on coming back in a couple years? Are you going to retire there? If you have moved away how is Wal*mart going to affect your daily life? If you don't move can you see the proposed site from your house? If not then you won't have to look out your window and see the big store with a huge parking lot. Not a problem then right?
I don't have any thing good or bad to say about big retail store, because I don't do very much of our family's shopping. But when I do go inside its the typicle male pattern shopping routine, I know what I want, get it, pay for it, get out. So what if some young kid gives me some attitude. I just tell myself they have alot of maturity yet to gain. Weren't we all little shit heads once? Haven't we all been inside a store and seen someone that we know and stopped to say hello and be neighborly? Well while we were visiting we were clogging up an isle and some one had to around. Just because we grew up in the LDS faith doesn't mean that we are all sweet little angels that can do no wrong. If you folks want to bitch and complain about something here is one. The propose coal fired power plant in the North end of Sevier County. At least Wal*mart is not a major polluter.
P.S. The transport winds blow from the South to the North, you will be affected some how some way.

Rachel!

I totally remember the conversations about the DC but I can't remember what he looked like. Please post a picture if you can find one!
BTW...My hatred for WalMart is due to the fact that they made my job a living h*** when I worked at the bank. Just because of all the crap they put me through so they could save a penny (literally...it was not very much!) I won't shop with them. Who knew such a little sign could bring upon so much controversy!

I totally see your point and you are always the one that loves to be on the other side of controversy--I distinctly remember an abortion conversation we had that got me fired up--you didn't really feel what you were saying, just putting the other side out there for conversation sake.
BTW- if YOU, Glen PQ, stop and chat to be neighborly at the local store I know in my heart of hearts that you do not clog the aisle for a good 30 mins.

Wow Glen, hello. Everyone meet my brother whom I had no idea was such a spitfire!

Krista, I don't think I have a picture of the DC, but I have one more place to look. Man, his smile was killer!
