I just got out of the tub and while soaking and reading a Connecting Threads magazine/catalog (a wonderfully delicious catalog of fabric, tools, patterns, and threads) I made a decision. I had to decide whether to post on my blog our amazing weekend camping trip OR measure, cut, and sew on borders for a quilt that I started in 2005 and promised to finish before the fair. Here is what I decided - I will post a little post tonight just you know I am still around and hold off on the BIG camping post, AND I will measure and cut out the borders. It is so much easier to do that when my little 3 year old helper is in bed!
So, here is the story for the day. The girls and I went for a bike ride this evening AFTER I had my 7 inch long jungle of a lawn mowed and BEFORE my sweet Matthew got home from work. By the way, it was the perfect weather day today here - FINALLY! Our bike ride wove around the backstreets of Heber City and I was able to admire the established pretty flowers and fun yards of the older side of town, and then we headed to the subdivision side of town. I love to see the fun landscaping ideas of the newer homes. Anyway, we pass one house where I happened to spot out of the corner of my eye a cat. Kelsey rode up next to me and we had this conversation:
Kelsey - "Mom, I think I just saw a pussy cat!" in a very excited voice
Me - "A what?" as I tried to keep the bike balanced while Kendal is wrenching around in the back seat to look around for a cat
Kelsey - "A pussy cat!"
Me - Thinking where is this conversation leading? "What do you mean a pussy cat? What is a pussy cat?"
Kelsey - "You know, a pussy cat, not just a normal plain ol' cat, a pussy cat." still pedaling with excitement exploding out of her sweet little face
Me - "What is the difference between a normal cat and a pussy cat?" I was truly interested
Kelsey - "Didn't you see that cat? It was a HUGE cat and that makes it a pussy cat, not a normal cat." she was smiling at me when she said this
Me - laughing and a little smarter now that I knew what a pussy cat was "Kelsey, I never knew that about pussy cats, thanks honey, I always wondered about that."
Kelsey rode up next to me with a big satisfied grin and let me know that she taught me something very important today.
By the way, these pictures are from last July. Since then, I have purchased new helmets for both of my girls because a friend of mine claimed it was child abuse to allow my girls to wear these helmets any longer, Kendal lost all that puffiness from the nasty meds last summer, Kelsey's beloved pom pom bike was stolen, and I chopped off my hair - again. I am off to cutting my border fabric!

I love the things we learn from little ones! I can't wait to hear about the camping trip. I am getting really wimpy and not wanting to go on any caming trips that are "too rough" this summer, which means all of them since we are out our trailer!
First of all, you are so much tiniter now that in those pictures from last year. It took me while to figure out why your hair looked so different...duh? Good for you and bike riding. I think I am going to take my kids this afternoon, you inspired me! Love the Pussy Cat comment. Where did she hear "Pussy Cat"? and why is my mind in the gutter now?
Come On RACHEL! I am waiting to see your quilt block and camping stuff. You must be gardening(haven't seen pictures of that either your falling behind!)
The bigger the pussy cat the better is what I always say! I thought the big cats were Tom Cats not pussy cats! I might have to have a debate with Kelsey on this one!!!!!!!
This is what makes you a good mom, See I want to have a debate.
Hey Rachel. I just read your comment on our blog. Excuses not to meet up this summer? I just thought I would leave it up to my husband to plan. It is a miracle he even talked about it with Matt. Maybe we should plan something on the side just incase they don't come through!! I don't know about Matt, but Joe isn't a planner. It will be interesting to see what they come up with! That bike ride looks like fun :)
a Tom cat is a male cat, there can be big male cats and small male cats
don't put me in the same category of a pussy cat!!
Mr Tom
