the canal

There is a settling pond and canal up above my parents house.  Last Spring Break I blogged about it here.  I think its so funny that my kids love to go there all the time now.

When we were there last spring, I showed them the culvert that connects the pond to the canal.  I told them I used to play in it, scooting back and forth between the pond and the canal all spring, until the water came.  They would not enter last year, no way!

Giving them a year to think about it must have made them brave.  And I know they had thought about it because Kendal asked me many questions about it over the past year.
Last spring I told them about the perfect boot print I found in that culvert when I was little and pretty much decided Leprechauns were real and there were some that lived in the foothills above my house.
Kendal still talks about that little boot print.  It must be like magic to her too.

Before I knew it, Kendal, Emmitt, and my nephew Brogan were through the culvert and ready to find some little people.

We didn't find any, but we went on an adventure walk down the dry canal bed.

Well, mostly dry.  We ran into a few muddy spots.
But we just kept walking down the canal.  I would tell them things like "this was the best tubing spot" and "my brother and his friends had the best hut right up there" and "we used to have a rope swing right here over the canal."  It was truly a walk down memory lane.

It was sort of a windy day, so being down in the canal kept us out of the wind.
They could get muddy, throw rocks, get sticks, yell and holler, and have a great time.  You know, just be a kid.

Spending the long President's Day Weekend at my parents' home with cousins was a highlight to this dreary February for my sweet things.

Spending the long President's Day Weekend at my parents' home with my kids, niece, nephews, and my incredible parents was also a wonderful highlight to my entire winter.
I love that place.
I guess that is why its called HOME.

New Years at Duck Creek

Just yesterday I was browsing through my pictures on the computer and noticed I still had not blogged about our family vacation during New Years.  We had such a great time, and I looked forward to the trip so much, when it was over, I didn't want to really believe it was over.  I had so many pictures, I didn't know where to begin to record the fun weekend.  Then, my sister just happened to blog about it the other day, so I am piggy backing on her blog post.  The only problem is that her post doesn't include a picture of her, and since she and my brother hi-jacked my camera during the weekend and took some incredibly funny pictures, I will share just one.  This is of her and my dad - not sure what the faces are all about, but here is Tori!

Tori takes some great photos and really enjoys taking pictures, so she caught some great action photos of a bit of snow fun.  Please, because I am way too lazy to blog about it all, go to her blog and read all about it here!

We all drove a few hours south and into the mountains to a place called Duck Creek Village where we rented a cabin and a few snowmobiles for a few days.  What a great time we had.  Oh my goodness, we laughed and laughed.  All the kids got along very well, all the adults enjoyed each other, and we made some sweet memories.  Here is my brother Glen, my mom, and my sister Tori chilling on the couch while everyone else was playing cards.  We told silly stories and played in the snow, and ate some really great food.  Thank you family, and thank you Tori for saving me 6 hours of blogging time!

24th of July

Our 24th of July was a good one this year.  My sister Tori and her family came to Heber, as well as Matt's brother Mark and his family.  We had a great little dinner outside of hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and all kinds of other good stuff.

The evening's weather was perfect for such a good time together.  The kids played and the adults chatted.

We don't have a set tradition for the 24th of July.  In years past we have gone camping, just gone to the hills for a burger roast, headed to the mountains for a getaway from the heat, parades, or whatever it is that sounds good that year.  We do usually try to hit the fireworks in nearby Charleston, and that is the most of our tradition for Pioneer Day in Utah.

This year was a good year.  We got to see family, eat good food, enjoy the day and evening at home, and of course, hit the fireworks in Charleston.

(Tori is going to kill me, but I could not resist.)

Matt, Mark, and the kids roped for a bit before heading off to Charleston.  It is so fun to see them all have a good time together.

Thanks so much Elwells and Cranes for a fun evening together.  We should get together like this more often!

E is for . . .
Eating a roasted hot dog on Easter weekend.

 A is for . . .
Ascending the clay hill in the wind just so you can roll your Easter eggs back down the clay hill and watch them disintegrate into just a yellow yolk by the time it makes it all the way down.

S is for . . .
Sit and slide all the way down the hill to gather up the eggs that made it to the bottom without too much damage, just to do it all again!

(Mister Moose is a 4th grade mascot for Kelsey's class.  It was her weekend to take care of him and take him on an adventure.  Therefore Mister Moose accompanied us for the weekend and partook of the fun.  I think it was 41 degrees!)

T is for . . .
Take them off and dump them out every 10 minutes.  Sweet cowboy boots, gotta love them.  He sure does!

E is for . . .
Easter Egg hunt at Grandpa and Grandma's house!  Tori made up a sweet treasure hunt this year with some fun clues and a great map.  They loved it.

R is for . . .
Really cute kids.  My kids had a ball playing with their big cousin Brogan and loving on their baby cousin Brig.  They loved staying in Grandpa's cabin, and spending time with cousins, aunt  Tori, grandma, grandpa, and getting away for the weekend.  Thanks mom, dad, and Tori for a fun Easter getaway!

EASTER - one of my favorite holidays.  Not only for remembering the wonderful resurrection of our Lord and Savior, but for the fun family times as well.
