The girls wore the dresses I made them for Civil War reenacting to church today. They looked so darling. They wore their chemises, petticoats, and Kelsey wore the stay I finished for her late last night. (Their drawers won't stay up - they need some work and made so they attach to the stays!) To top off the 'not so period' look, they wore short white socks and just Sunday shoes. After church I made them wait outside so I could take their picture. I took a few on the front steps and decided I didn't like the looks of the big concrete cracked stairs so I made them move to the side yard.
In the side yard this is the look I got from Kelsey. I asked her why she was not smiling. She said "Because they didn't smile in those days." She cracks me up. I think I will have to have a historic photograph lesson with her!
Yeah, more non-smiling Kelsey and Kendal not looking at the camera. It is like growing melons in Heber City to get that girl to smile - depends on the year and even at that it is hit and miss!
Okay, smiles again! The girls also have one other dress each from this pattern. It goes together so slick, unless you try to make the waistband extend into ties and a bow. Then it gets a titch complicated, but still pretty easy. We took a bunch of pictures yesterday of all the kids dressed up at Heber Old Town to put on a new webpage advertising a reenactment that is happening in Heber City in September. They turned out darling. I will share them soon.

Cute, cute... funny about the no smile and even better with the Melon analogy! No dress up for Emmitt? :) Can't wait to see the other photos!
Wow, the dresses look awesome,,,,, You did sucha good job,,they look soooooo nice.
I love the bottom hem of Kelseys dress- that looks so pretty!
Does Kelsey think that everyone was unhappy then? That cracks me up.
They look fantastic! So cute!
How funny about the "no smiling" thing. She takes history seriously! They are both beautiful and I love the trim around the hems, so pretty.
I meant to tell you Sunday when I saw the dresses how darling they both looked. What lucky girls to have a mom who loves to sew!
