another chemise

I need a few more chemises for reenacting, ( I am headed to a 3 day event in Arizona soon) so I printed off this free pattern from Elizabeth Stewart Clark and got busy. I only had one chemise, and my friend made that one, so I needed to make some. This pattern just has you measure a few places and then sews up into a really simple chemise. Well, this is what it looked like a week or so ago. I hadn't gathered the neck up yet and I got a huge kick out of it. So did Jen and Amanda.

We had a sewing night at my house and to prove that we were actually sewing, Amanda wanted to take a picture and send it to a few friends. I told her we should both get in my chemise and take a picture to send to our favorite people. So we did. We both wiggled into the chemise and then giggled the entire way to the bathroom to look in the mirror and take a picture. It is one of those times that is so darn funny at the moment and then you look back on it, and it makes you wonder what you were laughing so hard about.

Well, I finally gathered the neckline and all is well. I even washed it to get our body prints out of it! It is a little too short (it should be knee length) but I didn't buy enough fabric at the time. Now I know, and I am glad I tried this pattern out on cheaper fabric! Now I need to make a few more, but the right length and little less fullness!

Love the chemise, btw! you know, my favorite ones are the simple ones like that...and they are so comfy! Especially if you don't happen to have a period correct nightgown...they come in useful!
