A Day of Black

I am in mourning today. Yesterday was election day and 52% of Heber City residents that voted, voted for Big Box Stores. Dang it! Those of us who were against WalMart lost the vote by 106 votes. I will be wearing black the rest of the week. I am mourning the loss of my sweet Heber Valley's feel. My friend Lynette (who grew up here in Heber) said that some of us will just have to move to Loa. Where the heck is Loa anyway?

Thanks mom. I will invite you to the funeral procession parade down main street when we have it. You must wear black too!

That sucks. Why do they have to be everywhere!!! They move in, higher tons of people, and then lay them off six months after the new wears off. They don't have to be in our backyards, trust us, we don't mind the drive for the convenince. You better move to Greenwich, not Loa. Loa has a higher chance of a Wal-Mart invasion than Greenwich does. We haven't even acheived a pop machine or pay phone.

Rachel, I spoke to "3 ladies" that came to my house to visit, the morning after the vote. They all said they voted for big box. "it is coming anyway..." they stated that those who wanted big box to stay out should have thought about that before they did all of there big developments.
I told them that I voted against it, they were shocked. "Why," you have a small family won't it help you. I told them yes, but I think that the City is having them come for the wrong reasons. I figured if big box doesn't come in the CITY, it would eventually come out in the county. Out by the new college would be great.
I don't think people thought of that. Keep it out of the main street shops, away from the school, and houses. If it is going to come anyway put it out by the college.

Jen, I heard that was going to be the plan. If the city didn't want big box, the county was going to want it and it would have been north of town. That is still not ideal for me, but MUCH MUCH better than smack dab in the middle of the city limits!

Mindy, if all of us city savages moved to Greenwich, that would be the end of Greenwich. We just won't tell anyone where we will move to!!

The day after the vote, I had the cops stop by and told me the disco ball, and music were disturbing the neighbors.

FYI: City wanted it so they could get a portion of the sales tax. If it was just in the couunty the city wouldn't get a cut.

The disco ball and the music???

It's always about money.

Mark, is that the nice way to tell me I am not living in the 70s and to get a little current? No more disco balls?? Or are you living it up before the wife and chillens get home? It is a good thing YOU keep the blinds open!
Oh, I know the city wanted a cut, dang them!! More than a cut!

Mark, I am an idiot. I just said to Matt, "that Mark Jones sure likes to get my goat" and I then I proceeded to tell him what your comment said. Then I told him what I wrote. He said "Rachel, he wasn't making fun of you, he said he was celebrating, you know having a party because WalMart is coming." I am so dense, SOMETIMES!! I didn't get what you were getting at, because, well, we seldom party at our house! I am not too sure what to even do to begin celebrating and hang up a disco ball.
