I Dig Ebay

I have a new passion, it is called Ebay and I am in deep trouble! I am so addicted! I found this sewing machine on Ebay and I had to buy it, it was only $15 and it is a 1891 machine. That is right, it was made in 1891 and is a hand crank machine. Here it is, although those are not my pretty hands. How could I, being a dedicated quilter at heart, not buy this machine? Maybe I will start a collection of old machines. Now that is a killer idea!

This is a picture of the bobbin. Well, technically it was not called a bobbin back then, it is a shuttle. Very cool huh? The picture above is of my neighbor Debbie and I winding the bobbin. On a sewing machine today that takes about 40 seconds. Well, this one took me about 40 minutes! Oh well, I am learning and it sure looks cool! I hate to admit that I haven't actually sewn with it yet. I am a little intimidated by its oldness and simplicity and I am not even sure if I can thread it correctly. I will wait until Debbie comes over again and she can show me.

By the way, Ebay has great deals on Leapster game cartridges, but don't bid on the same ones I do!!

I got addicted to e-bay a couple of years ago when I tried to win a bowling shirt for Rob as a gag gift. When you don't win the bid you just keep on going.
I think you should take this sewing machine to antique roadshow and see how much it is really worth!

Ha ha ha mom!! For the first few years I heard that I didn't get it--then I did and it kinda hurt my feelings ( I was like 9) the thought of you guys giving me away, then the thought of whoever took me gave me back! Geez, that can scar a child! But we were both too dang cute to give up!!!
